Food Processing Manufacturer Transplants to Caldwell
CALDWELL — A recession doesn’t stop people from buying french fries — it actually might do just the opposite.
“Everybody has to eat, regardless of the economy, and oddly enough the tough economy makes the fast-food market business increase,” said Reyco Systems Sales and Marketing Manager Brian Scott.
That’s one reason, he said, why Reyco, a manufacturer of food processing technology, has been able to expand. In April, the company moved from Meridian to a bigger facility in Caldwell — a 32,000-square-foot building with nearly triple the space.
Plus, Reyco is now closer in proximity to one of its biggest clients, the J.R. Simplot Co., which plans to build a new potato processing plant in Caldwell.
The business community in Caldwell has already been “terrific” to work with, Scott said. “The Chamber of Commerce and all the businesses around Caldwell have just welcomed us with open arms.”
Caldwell Economic Development Council Executive Director Steve Fultz sees Reyco as a strong addition to the city’s economy.
“It tells a story that Caldwell is open for business for manufacturing, for warehouse distribution,” he said.
Reyco’s staff has grown by 10 employees since April and now totals about 32.
Caldwell welcomes companies of that size, which help diversify the city’s economy, Fultz said.
“So many times you’ll see a community the size of Caldwell where basically they’ve got one industry supporting the entire community,” he said.
With the recent opening of the Foreign Trade Zone, Fultz said he is having conversations with Reyco about joining the zone, which could offset some of the company’s import costs.
